Where they started, and why.
An enterprise software development firm with offices in the USA, UK, Norway and Ukraine, already sitting on a DR of 71 and needing to move a plateaued organic channel.
Intellectsoft builds custom software for clients from startups to enterprises, and after seventeen years and 200 staff across four countries they had the domain authority to match — a DR of 71. What they did not have was movement. Organic traffic had plateaued at roughly 23,000 visits a month, and while they ranked for 11,600 keywords, few of those positions sat high enough to bring in qualified enquiries. At DR 71 the usual levers are exhausted: more content does not move a domain that already has authority, and generic high-DR links do not move rankings in a field as specific as enterprise software development.
The constraint shaped the strategy. Moving a domain that is already strong means relevance rather than volume, so every placement was selected for topical fit with software development and the industries Intellectsoft sells into — not for its Domain Rating alone. We committed to 130 placements across five months on sites that met both bars: a genuine authority score and a genuine reason to be writing about custom software.
What we actually did.
Relevance-first placement selection
Each of the 130 target sites was screened against Intellectsoft's actual service lines before outreach, rather than filtered by DR and checked for relevance afterwards. Placements landed on properties like Venngage, TimeCamp, FixThePhoto, Growth Collective, PowerDMARC and LitCommerce — software and SaaS publications whose readers are the people who commission development work.
Authority floor held across the campaign
The links built averaged DR 68 across all 130 placements. Holding that average over five months is the part that takes supply: a handful of DR 80+ placements is straightforward, but keeping the mean high across an entire campaign means never taking a weak site to hit a monthly number.
Anchor targeting on commercial terms
Anchors were planned across the whole campaign against the service and industry pages Intellectsoft needed to rank, rather than per order. That is what converted new authority into position changes on the terms that matter, and it is why the keyword count moved alongside the traffic rather than lagging it.
Publications that carried them.

A domain that had stopped moving, moving again.
Monthly organic traffic rose from roughly 23,000 to 69,000 — a 197% increase over five months. Ranking keywords grew from 11,600 to 14,537, a 25% expansion that shows the gain came from breadth of visibility rather than a single term spiking. Domain Rating moved from 71 to 72, which sounds slight and is not: DR is logarithmic, and a full point at that level takes materially more link equity than the same point would at DR 40. The campaign is ongoing.
